To be continued…

I have decided that from my long crazy break, that I owe it to myself to continue what I have started, my lil ole sweet blog. Its amazing how life, and its journey and experiences can pull you in one direction. Much has happened since my post in July, and its is crazy that this year is coming to a close. I have made a promise to myself (a sort of resolution), that I will make the effort to finish continue what I have started- along with many other resolutions like eating healthy, exercising (working on it), taking care of my inner and outer self, and cutting back on delicious sweets (maybe I will do this another time..). My point is I started this lil ole blog and I intended to make great things happen with it.

See you all soon,

M.I.A

As Salaamu Alaikum Lovelies

I have been super busy these last few weeks, considering I started working and barely have time to eat and sleep, so I have been unable to blog. Most nights when I get home from work I have just enough time to cook a quick meal, take a “bird” bath (a very quick shower), and maybe I get to eat the food I have cooked. After, I finish doing all of this I still have to help the kiddies prepare for the next day and sen the hubby off to work. So needless to say there is little to no room for blogging, or anything else for that matter. So I decided to make a schedule. FYI, I’m not big on schedules for two reasons; I like to have room for spontaneity (but that’s out the window too) and because I almost never follow them. Maybe this times it will be different and help things flow a little bit better, or it could have the opposite effect and drive me absolutely insane! However, I did manage to get a couple of shots of myself in my tie-dye scarf.

My “Mom’s Daily Schedule”, lets see how long this last. P.S. schedule is subject to change!!!

Hats Off!!!

My mother used to say “A woman wears many hats”. My life hasn’t change too much in the past 9 years (aside from moving across the country, a new marriage, and having another chid). I have always had to juggle being a mother, working, going to school (full-time), a husband, home life, and whatever else came up. But it wasn’t until recently that I came to the conclusion that wow…I am so many things all wrapped up in one! A wife/mother/preschool teacher/student/cook/maid (or at least I feel like one) and the list goes on. My job is never done! Its does not end until I lay my head down to rest, and even then I am often awoken by whining or the hubby (or just the hubby whining). So to all you lovely ladies out there fiercely rocking your many hats, I take mine’s off to you!

PS. I started work this past week, after being a very long two-year vacation. Let’s just say I wasn’t at all prepared! I am completely exhausted. I forgot how crazy it can be dealing with 15+ preschoolers…eight hours a day, five days a week. And I still have to come home a deal with the hubby and my two lil ones. Ya Allah! And on top of that my lil Ayah came down with a virus during her first week of school and had to be rushed to the ER, gotta love those kiddie cooties!

Be You…not a gypsy!

As Salaamu Alaikum Lovelies

As a muslimah my main goals when it comes to style and fashion are to always 1)maintain my modesty, 2) to keep my own personal style (which is boho chic with a lil funk) as long as it does not transgress Islamic guidelines, 3) don’t try to be like anyone else… its okay to be me, and 4) not to look like a bag lady. Maintaining my modesty is the most important to me, I will not leave my home without a scarf/ hijab or wear clothing the shows the contours of my body (which is not hard at all, if you know me I am very small…so most things dont show my figure). Keeping my own personal style was a bit of a struggle at first, especially if you are a skinny jean rockin, sleeveless shirt wearin type of girl before you converted/ reverted this might pose as a challenge! So this took sometime, and after a few years of playing with my look and learning different scarf wrapping techniques to fit my stlye and mood I have master a hijabi sytle that is me (and yes it took sometime). I urge every muslimah to be yourself! Yes its fine to look to other muslimahs for style inspiration (we all do this, and its okay) but after being inspired make it your own! Don’t try to copy or mimic someone elses style, because this leaves little to no room for growth. I have been guilty of this, especially when I first became muslim. And not only was it tiring, but it became hard to maintain. So ladies just be you and do you! And last but not least, that whole bag lady thing, is something that many muslimahs can have a hard time with. We already have on more clothing than most people, so trying to look fashionable and modest can sometimes be a lil difficult, especially in the spring and summer (fall and winter aren’t that hard we have that whole layering thing down). Too much layering can make your whole outfit look messy and not flattering. And I am not trying to look messy. I am definitely not trying wear 10lbs of clothing in hot, sometimes humid weather; or go to the shore with layers upon layers of clothing… I have done this and it was an epic fail!!! It is not easy to frolic along the beach (trying to look sweet and cute)  wearing about 8 articles of clothing. Not to mention I looked a hot mess (no thanks to my hubby, who told me I looked just fine…never will I ask that guy for fashion tips). I looked like the Queen of the Gypsies, not a good look…especially if you aren’t a gypsy.

So my advice to all my lovely muslimahs is to keep it simple and be you (and don’t ask your hubby anything!). If you are at odds on what to wear try pairing flowy wide leg pants with a relaxed knit top (or a top of the same fabric) and top it off with a cardi sweater or military inspired jacket (to cover those arms). A simple maxi dress or skirt always does the trick, throw on a jean jacket/ shirt for a day time look and at night top it of with a blazer or leather jacket. If you don’t want to wear a sweater or jacket, a simple long sleeve T-shirt  is great way to cover up and beat the summer heat. And don’t forget those accessories ladies!!!

Rachel Zoe in all white, perfect for the summer. To make it muslimah friendly add a silk hijab (patterned or keep it simple with the white or black theme).

Wear these yellow wide leg pants with a long sleeve top, and a light weight sweater, and a hijab.

The perfect outfit! Make sure you cover those arms muslimahs. Throw on a funky hijab and some accessories to complete the look.

A Rambling, Nothing Beautiful Day!

Nothing much happened over the weekend, we all planned to make our weekly adventure to the Smith Playground, but the hubby was very tired. He has been working a lot lately, so being the loving wife that I am, I let him sleep in instead of dragging him off to the park. So we spent an uneventful day in the house, really we spent much of the weekend in the house (I hope the hubby realizes this will not be the case next weekend). So me and the kiddies spent the whole weekend, watching movies, dancing around the house to the tunes of DJ Lance Rock (my daughter is a big fan of Yo Gabba Gabba, so yea thats what I’m workin’ with), eating ice cream and strawberries, and Ayah showing her artistic abilities all over the house; drawing on everything but paper. Her canvases of choice have been the hall wall and fridge. Oh! One amazing thing did happen this weekend my son led me in salaat. I felt so proud hearing him recite, mashaAllah.

This totally has nothing to do with this post , but I went to Jumu’ah this past Friday after the hubby asked ever so kindly  to accompany him, how can I deny him that when he asked ever so sweetly. Anywho…lets just say I am not anticipating going next Friday. Ayah was a major distraction, she was all over the place, screaming, crying, doing everything but sitting a being mommy’s lil sweet potato! I knew there was a reason I decided to stop going…the one year old who likes to run around screaming while everyone is praying.

Animal…

As Salaamu Alaikum and Hello Lovelies!

I think my love for animal prints is on a whole other level. Sometimes I scare myself with my fascination with (mostly) all things leopard (don’t worry my other spotted or stripped beauties you hold a special place in my heart too). Leopard print for me has become my new favorite neutral. Yes, I said neutral…leopard print can go with anything…as long as its done right (wink), Not only can it go with anything but it can satisfy a plethora of moods and looks. Feelin’ a lil flirty, throw on a cute leopard print dress or top, wanna give that conservative outfit an understated kick…wrap a thin leopard belt around your waist or silk scarf  tied on your purse. Wanna go all out and be bold… wear a leopard skirt or pants!!! I have a long time marriage to leopard prints (hope the hubby doesn’t get jealous) and I don’t see us parting anytime soon.

These are pics of my lil baby girl, playing dress up. She too will have a love for animal prints like her mama.
